After five years of research, consultation and a lot of hard work, the Northwich Neighbourhood Plan has cleared its last hurdle and is ready to be put to the people of Northwich in a referendum.
The last stage of the plan process was the examination. Giving the plan his seal of approval in March, Independent Examiner Robert Yuille wrote:
From reading the supporting evidence it is clear that much hard work over a long period has gone into the preparation of the Plan.
From the outset, the authors of the Plan have shown a clear grasp of what such a Plan can achieve and they have produced a thorough, compendious and professionally presented document which addresses the planning issues of importance to the local community.
Commenting on the examiner’s decision, Cllr Andrew Cooper said:
We’re delighted that the plan has passed the examination stage and we can now proceed to referendum.
It’s been a long time coming, but we’re now very close to having a plan in place that will meet the needs of this town now and into the future.
I hope everyone will be able to get behind the plan and give it their support.
Northwich Neighbourhood Plan was submitted to Cheshire West and Chester in November 2017 and a period of publicity will take place between Thursday 23 November and Friday 12 January 2018. During this time, any interested parties are invited to comment on the plan and accompanying documents. Following the publicity period, an independent examiner will be appointed who will consider the plan and any comments made.

Sustrans were commissioned to write a plan for Northwich by a group that formed last summer to focus on the issue as a spin-off from the Northwich Neighbourhood Plan.
This group included representatives from Northwich Town Council, the business community, Active Cheshire and the Northwich Guardian’s Pedal Power campaign.
The plan will now become part of Northwich Neighbourhood Plan, laying the basis for improvements for cyclists and pedestrians as the town continues to develop.
At tonight’s meeting of Northwich Town Council, Cllr. Andrew Cooper provided an update on the progress of the Neighbourhood Plan.
Students from Sir John Deane’s College (SJD) and Mid Cheshire College shared their thoughts on the town during two sessions with members of the Northwich Neighbourhood Plan team.

This is the first contribution from our Neighbourhood Planning team since the inaugural public meeting last December. It is very reassuring to report our Executive Committee has been working well and now meeting every 2 weeks and occasionally more often. [Read more…]
